Principal Android Engineer

Own Unloc on Android: make the door-opening moment instant, watch people use it, and get rid of keys.

Make the door-opening moment instant. Then make it magical.

More than 2 million doors open with Unloc every month. Each one is half a second between a person and a lock: the door-opening moment. Get it right and nobody notices. Get it wrong and nothing else matters. At its best it’s magical and automatic: the door opens as you arrive, and nobody has to tap anything unless they want to. You are the key, not your phone. You own that moment on Android, end to end, side by side with Aksel, our first employee, who leads iOS and the app as a whole. You build it hands-on, with AI agents as your team: we’re investing heavily in AI agents, with no cap on credits. The goal is simple: open doors – for everyone, everywhere.

What you’ll own

  • Android, end to end: architecture, roadmap and release quality, built natively for Google’s platform, with the watch, the car and the rest of the ecosystem as natural extensions.
  • The door-opening moment: instant, reliable and increasingly automatic, on every device and every lock.
  • NFC and Bluetooth: understood deeply enough to make every opening fast, from prototype to production.
  • New integrations: every lock system in the world, behind one neutral app.
  • Time with the people who use it: in the hallway outside our office and on customer sites, watching how people open doors and changing the app on what you see. And bringing the rest of the team along, until talking to customers is simply how engineers work at Unloc.

What we expect

  • Based in Oslo and fluent in Norwegian. It’s the working language of our team and many of our customers, so it’s a requirement, not a preference.
  • Deep in native Android. You know what’s coming to the platform before it lands, and you set the bar for what ships.
  • A real understanding of NFC and Bluetooth, and the curiosity to keep digging: they decide how fast and how magical the opening moment feels.
  • Product sense. You don’t need to draw designs, but you won’t wait for a spec either: you prototype, put it in front of people, watch what they do and fix what you see.
  • Excited about building with AI. AI agents are part of your everyday work, and you ship at a pace that looks unfair.

What to show us

Tell us about an Android app you built: who used it, what you built yourself and what was hardest to get right. If you’ve worked with NFC or Bluetooth, tell us what you learned, and tell us about a time watching someone use your app changed what you built. Links to apps or code are welcome.

Help build the challenger.

Keys, fobs and cards made buildings depend on someone being there. Unloc replaces them with access the data decides, on the locks already installed.

350,000+ people already open doors with Unloc, more than 2 million times a month. You’ll work directly with the founders and own a real part of what comes next.
